Component 2

Component 2 is all about developing your skills. We will develop our designing and editing skills using Photoshop and experiment with different outcomes. We will also use cameras to take photographs for editing and add to your designs. The final work for assessment will be produced in a 10 hour window, this will happen in normal lessons.

Setting up your files

We need to set up our front cover and double-page spread. This will be your final piece for this component.

  1. Download the files

  2. Save them in your Component 2 folder

  3. Open the front page

  4. Add your Masthead and your coverlines. (Use the videos below to help you)

  5. Choose an image based on your theme

  6. Choose the fonts you will use

  7. Experiment with the layout

Magazine Layout (LA B - Apply Skills)

How to create a new file, adding the rulers and creating a custom shape.

How to add titles and a body of text.

How to save your PSD file in your L2 Media folder.

How to add and edit found or "Secondary" images from the internet.

TASK  - The Basics of Photoshop (LA A - Developing Skills)
 

Your task is to understand the basics of photoshop. 

Open a new explorer window and find your documents.

Create a new folder called "Media C2" This is where you will save all of your work, especially PDS - Photoshop files.

CLICK HERE to take you to a shared folder. Download the two files and save them in your new Media C2 folder.

Go to the windows icon bottom left and look for Adobe Photoshop, click on the 64GB one and the application will open.

Photoshop Workshop - Editing Photographs (LA A - Developing Skills)

This task is all about how to use photoshop to edit existing photographs.

 

You will use the following tools and skills:

  • Importing other images. 

  • Changing the nature of individual layers (multiply and overlay)

  • Adjusting the Hue and Saturation (Image/adjustments/Hue and Saturation)

  • Adding Layer Masks (using the brush tool with black or white to remove or add)

Once you have completed your edited image you need to produce a step-by-step guide to show how you have  Make sure you write about the skills you have learnt whilst editing the image. Include screen shots of the image as it progresses, including screen shots of your layers box.

Photoshop Template - Harry Potter  (LA A - Developing Skills)

The aim of this task is to further develop your skills from the previous task.

This task is about developing your page layout skills. 

Your task is to create your own double page layout based on a fruit of your choice.

You will experiment with:

  • Fonts

  • Blocks of text (Laurem Ipsum)

  • Colour

  • Page Layout (composition - the video will help you)
