LA A - A written task for Digital vs Printed Magazines.
You should evaluate the impact of digital technology on magazines, the advantages and disadvantages of:
Describe the online magazine you have chosen. Use the magazine to write about the keywords below:
-
Immediacy: You can access the content on any connected device, the content is constantly updated.
-
Access: no longer exclusive, inexpensive as online content is much cheaper than printed magazines. (production and distribution costs are higher for printed magazines - You need to mention the difference in costs and this is why printed magazines have an online version, they had to adapt to being online as this is where the audience's habits have changed.
-
Convenience: free or cheap, global, national, local, user friendly. You can download an app to make it even easier to access the content. Free content is provided to entice you to subscribe.
-
Portability: movement and flexibility, working patterns (you can access content easily between work etc), always connected as the data networks are continually improving.
-
Connectivity: global village, digital communities, social networks. We are constantly connected to the content - we don't carry the printed magazines around in our pockets but we can stay connected to magazine content through our mobile devices.
In conclusion, you need to write about how magazine companies have had to adapt to the way the public access their chosen content.

An advantage of online magazine content is that it can be updated easily at a low cost (subscriptions)
A disadvantage of printed magazines is the additional cost of printing (a printing company will charge to print the magazine) and distribution. This means that the magazine company sends out the magazines to the shops across the UK and also posting magazines to people who have a subscription.
